Hello Titans Family,
These are unprecedented times - your patience and understanding is much appreciated as we deal with this situation.
As promised in our last update of March 13th, we are continuing to keep you informed with the status of the upcoming season.
The GELC met on Sunday, March 15th, to discuss the ALA COVID-19 directive. As of now, the GELC (Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council) has decided to move ahead with the 2020 season planning as per below. Kindly note, these changes are subject to additional actions undertaken by the Government of Canada, Government of Alberta, CLA (Canada Lacrosse Association) and ALA (Alberta Lacrosse Association) with regards to the evolving circumstances.
- The 2020 season is now scheduled to being the week of April 27th
- The number of games in 2020 will be temporarily changed - to be advised.
- April 4th / 5th Team Parent, Coach and Manager Meeting - parent meeting is cancelled, coaches meeting will be restructured. The GELC Executive members are now scheduled to meet with the Coaching Directors from each club on April 7th at the GELC office to get coaching packages and review league protocols.
- March 29th Community Coach Development is cancelled. ALA is expediting online coaching clinics to be conducted through Zoom. New clinics maybe added to meet requirements - while at the same time ALA Executive is reviewing its application of coaching standards requirements for the 2020 season. Clinics scheduled after April 5th are not impacted at this time.
- 2020 Officials Clinics - ALA is working with the ALA towards an expedited online learning process for existing certified referees.
At this time, the Titans Executive is continuing to evaluate our options for what the upcoming season could look like. There are a number of challenges and factors for us to consider. We will continue to communicate regularly with the GELC and ALA for their direction and ensure that we communicate with all of you, our members, on a regular basis.
