GELC and ALA Updates
Lacrosse Canada has announced upcoming rule changes for the 2026 season, including the adoption of the World Lacrosse Rulebook, with age and stage modifications for minor lacrosse.
January 31, 2026 Update from the ALA:
We’re aware there’s significant concern and confusion regarding the 2026 rulebook rollout and the Age & Stage modifications being discussed nationally. We want to be clear on what we know today: Lacrosse Canada has indicated the intent is for all provinces to operate under the same rulebook for 2026, with no exceptions unless approved in writing by Lacrosse Canada.
At this point, Alberta does not have enough confirmed implementation detail to answer key questions around timing, training/support for officials and coaches, and what is mandatory for the 2026 season versus what could be phased in. The ALA Board is meeting on Sunday, February 1, 2026 to align Alberta’s approach and to consolidate a short, prioritized list of questions and required support to send back to Lacrosse Canada.
As shared by our LGB, the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council (GELC), these changes must still be reviewed by the Alberta Lacrosse Association (ALA) to determine how they will apply within Alberta.
In addition, the ALA has provided access to rule materials and a feedback form to allow members to submit questions and input.
